Friday Finishes...

My head is still throbbing. The stupid vent thingie on top of the microwave fell off (it's been broken for an unknown amount of time...I wasn't aware it was always this way bc it never fell off before this year) and hit me in the face. I can empathize with him:
Stinky, post op.
Although he's on doggie tranquilizers. Is that like horse tranquilizers?
Poor boober's mouth hurts...it's now short a few teeth.

I stayed at home with him and sewed today.
I did this last night:
test block for Sew Bee Blissful (Aug)
I was doing a test block for the Sew Bee Blissful block this month. I fluffed it a bit in terms of sewing two fabrics together that I didn't intend to. Now i know what to avoid when I sew Jenna's block.

I FINALLY finished mom's quilt top:
Mom's quilt top-finished!
I love it, but it's WAY bigger than anything I've tried to straight line quilt. I wish I could free motion on my machine. *sigh*

I finished a girl's twin quilt....very 80s...that I hope will be headed to Joplin soon.
very 80's quilt

Edit: July Modern Block of the Month, now complete:
Modern BOM

Still not worked on:
My July Modern Block of the month (i may do it tonight)
the Sew Bee Blissful block for Jenna (her fabrics came today but the envelope was opened...I'm waiting to see if I'm missing any important bits)
my prayer flag quilt (same pattern as the one for my mom)
For the Love of Solid swap item
Label that needs attaching to my Make Mine Modern swap item...(and then pretty packing)

I've been killing time...

waiting to get the call from the vet to get the doggie.
He had to get teeth pulled (and the rest cleaned).
*sad face*
I have his bed prepped with a fuzzy towel. He's going to be on pain meds.
I finished my 3x6 bee blocks. I hope my hive mates like them.
3x6 Greek cross

I really like this square. I'm pondering using it for my Sew Bee Blissful crew in November. We'll see.
I got freezer paper to make a label for the pillow for my swapmate. Gonna try to finish that up and wrap prettily and pack up that parcel to go out next week.

Left to do:
my July Modern block of the month (pieces cut out)
my test block for the August Sew Bee Blissful block (still waiting on fabric from the UK, fabric cut)
decide on a design for the For the Love of Solid swap...i keep waffling on the project in general. Pillow? Wall hanging? Something else entirely?
mom's quilt (sew the freaking borders that are ALREADY cut out)
assemble the pieces (not rows yet) of the prayer flag quilt

Hrm...I'm feeling slow because of the rain...

Works in Progress 8.3.11

I haven't done any sewing today. I painted part of my classroom.
I'm "organizing". Really, I'm trying not to freak out while waiting for the electrician.
I'm nervous about what he might tell me. We're starting to wonder if either everything in the house was miswired or a local lightning strike caused some kind of damage.

So, I took pictures:

My finished big item for my Make Mine Modern swap partner. (I don't think she reads my blog, so I think it's ok to post here.)

3x6 blocks for half of the hive (I did a 4th but made a boo boo and have to seam rip):

Here's my in progress Skill Builder (caught up as of right now):

Kona I pulled for my Modern Block of the Month:
stash for Modern Block Quilt

I still need to start my Love of Solids swap item....
And put borders on mom's quilt.
I'm going to be home most of the day either waiting for the dog or watching the dog post tooth pulling....I'm going to sew a lot tomorrow.

Also, because I refuse to take myself too seriously...someone asked about how you organize your projects. Here's my method:

Blarg. Having a funk day...

Just needed to vent. I promise to keep it short.
Blarg. just Blarg. Went to the derm this morning for repeatedly peeling skin that should not be peeling based on the medicine I was already on. Now have to add in more medicine and another visit.
Light switch in hall (where I use the iron) is buzzing and flickering. Have cut power to that outlet.
I'm worried that the washing and dryer are entering the hospice stage of functioning.
I'll be 37 in a few weeks. And I hoped to be in better shape by then, but I'm not.
I think I've got the blues (and likely PMS).
Blarg. I'm going to go to try to snuggle The Kraken.

PIcking up steam again?!

Just an intro because I'm linking up to this:
Small Blog Meet

I'm Ella! I just rediscovered quilting this summer on my vacation from teaching (which shall be over very very soon...already restocking my room). I've been going at it hardcore. Joined a few bees and swaps. Having a blast thus far...mostly. It's hot in Atlanta. I'm enjoying staying in the A/C, sewing with a best friend, wallowing in fabrics...and occasionally self doubt about my design choices (especially for swaps).

Am I picking up steam again?
I'm not sure, but I finished Row 5 on the Rockin Robin quilt along. I won't lie. I like looking at hexagons, but I am not a huge fan of basting.
Rockin Robin, hexagon rows

I even got excited and finished the top.
completed top
I really really like it.
I'm thinking probably a solid back. I don't have much left of my gaudy fabrics. I'm not even sure I have enough to make scrappy bias tape....which I would love. It's a bummer that my machine only straight line quilts. Hrm. Must ponder.

I also started my 3x6 blocks. I have 3 done and the forth sitting in my sewing area, waiting to be assembled. But right now, I'm going to snag some dinner.

Losing momentum...

I have a load of projects to work on:

Mom's quilt for Xmas
3x6 blocks (I'm doing a Greek cross and have fabric picked out for 4 out of the 6 folks)
the small item for my Make Mine Modern swap (I have an idea, I just haven't cut fabric or sewn)
the Prayer Flag quilt I started for me
The last row of the Rockin Robin (to be posted tomorrow)
the swap item for the For the Love of Solids swap
a quilt top for a little girl in Joplin

I was just feeling wiped out/sick this weekend...out of energy.
I'm trying to gear up again to get going. All I've gotten done today was cutting up bits. I finished a Skill Builder block yesterday...and it was all I had the energy to do.
Skill Builder #6 (block 7)
I like it. I'm realizing, though, that I am going to have to get more fat quarters at some point, because, if I do the challenge blocks, I will not have nearly enough fabric.

I think part of the problem is I'm feeling idea-less.
I'm totally stuck on what to make for the solid swap. I was thinking maybe a wall hanging, but my partner isn't as talky as me (really, who is?) and I'm not sure which colors to use for her. Blarg. Plus my brain is trying to get me to read (just finished The Help...wanted to read it before the movie), clean the house, and restock my classroom all at the same time. Needless to say, I'm not sleeping enough/having trouble winding down.
Blarg.

Finished up Friday!

I have a lot of works in progress...but I feel like I'm moving slow today.
I'm heading in to start cleaning my classroom and making up my shopping list for supplies.
(I may or may not be an office supply slut.)

I finished the Koolaid quilt. It's going to go into storage until we start mailing out Xmas presents. It feels good to have something done, especially for Pirate's family.
It also just screams summer to me.

I got mail! My Sewn Spaces swap item came yesterday from patriciab.
Sooo in love!

Sewn Spaces Swap Received!
She also included yarn and scissors! Lusciously plummy yarn!
Needlebook from Sewn Spaces swap

I cannot tell you enough how beautiful her work is. Now I have something to aspire to...and some inspiration to finish my Make Mine Modern items today, post classroom swabbing.
Have a lovely Friday, y'all!
